Seventh Night (The Night of Sevens/Magpie Festival/Qi Xi)

Seventh Night is a Chinese festival celebrated in August. According to legend, the goddess Zhi Nü (the star Vega) fell in love with the farmer boy Niu Lang (the star Altair), but their union was disapproved by the Zhi Nü's mother goddess. As punishment, the young lovers were separated by the Milky Way and could only meet once a year on this night. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi_Xi for a more detailed telling of the legend.)

In keeping with the tone of Seventh Night, this gift!fic exchange will focus on Alternative Universes.

Seventh Night Rules

1. In order to request a story, you agree to write a story in return. You don't need to participate in the exchange to join the community, but lurkers are strongly encouraged to leave feedback. Think of it like this: when you are invited to a dinner party you aren’t expected to cook, but do you come empty-handed?

2. You will be assigned your story via email by the Merciful Goddess, She will do Her best to match the requester’s wish list with your gift list. You must respond to the email acknowledging receipt of the prompt.

3. Your story must be rated between PG-13 to NC-21, and at least 7,500 words. Stories must contain a romantic/sexual element; this is not a gen-fic exchange.

4. No crossovers. This is a Saiyuki-centric exchange. No re-castings. While it's lovely to imagine Sanzo as Snow White with the rest of the ikkou and Kou-itachi as the Seven Dwarves, it is an onerous task to ask an author to assume.

5. Your story must be spell-checked, beta-read, and submitted in its entirety. Once the Merciful Goddess has received your story, it cannot be resubmitted. If you need a beta-reader, the Merciful Goddess will do Her best to help you secure one.

6. Your story should be e-mailed to the Merciful Goddess (mercifulkanzeon [at] gmail [dot] com) in .rtf format, for posting. Any questions that you may have regarding the exchange should be addressed to the Merciful Goddess as well.

7. In order to preserve anonymity, your story must be able to stand on its own and not be part of another story or a sequel/prequel to another story that you have written.

8. All stories written for the Exchange will be exclusive to 7thnight_smut until the names of the authors have been revealed (on or about September 24, 2017). Please do not post them anywhere else until then. If you do, you will be forbidden to participate in the next Exchange.

9. If for any reason you cannot keep your commitment, please let the Merciful Goddess know ASAP so that your gift!fic can be reassigned.

10. You must track the 7th Night community. From time to time the Merciful Goddess will post inquiries, you must check in and let Her know that you are diligently working on your assignment.

11. You must respond to emails from the Merciful Goddess. The key to a smooth exchange is communication. Nothing vexes Hir more than unresponsiveness.

Deadlines
1. Wish list/Gift list: Please respond to this post by May 21, 2017. Comments will be turned off sometime after midnight EDT, indicating the exchange is closed for participation.
2. Assignments: Will go out via email no later than May 27, 2017.
3. Submissions: I must receive your completed story no later than midnight EDT July 25, 2016.
4. All gift!fics will be posted by the Merciful Goddess to the 7th Night community beginning at 12:01am GMT on August 27, 2017. Please refer to the world clock to see what time that is in your timezone.
5. Authors will be revealed on or about September 24, 2017.

Authors are responsible for all italics and bolding of text, the document you submit must be tagged with HTML code.
